Simple Christmas Crafts - Scandi Papercut Star

I’m so excited to show you three simple, yet beautiful, Christmas DIY projects. All of these ideas are really easy to complete, you don’t have to be a creative superstar to make these festive projects. I have one decor related item, a gift wrapping idea and one fun party project so there’s something for everyone.

I partnered up with Dulux for this blog post which is amazing, I'm so fussy about decor and this collaboration meant that I could completely personalised each idea to suit my taste. Our home features a lot of peach, pink and navy blue which can be challenging to find at Christmas time. Working with Dulux meant that I got to pick out the perfect colours to suit my home. Let’s get started with the first idea!

Papercut Star

I love stars, whether they’re on my clothes, jewellery or hung in my home I can’t get enough. There’s something so festive and magical about the shape of a star which makes them perfect for Christmas time. I think the design of this oversized decoration has a bit of a Scandinavian vibe to it too, which I love. The best thing about this project is that you can match the paint colour to perfectly suit your home, you don’t have to stick to the traditional red, gold or green.

What you’ll need

  • Thick card - at least 400 gsm
  • Dulux paint of your choice - I used Mango Medley 3
  • A craft knife
  • Ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Scissors
  • Twine
  • Greenery

Choose a star shape that you like, this can be a simple star or something a little more complex like mine. Trace the shape that you’d like your decoration to be and sketch it out onto the card. Use a ruler to keep your lines straight.

Once you have your design drawn out onto the card you can begin to cut it out with the craft knife. Use a cutting mat so you don’t damage your work surface and take your time.

When the star is cut out apply two coats of paint and let dry. Use a length of twine to tie as a hanging loop and gather a few sprigs of greenery to attach to the top point on the star.

Hang up anywhere in your home. This decoration also looks wonderful as an alternative wreath.

I hope you liked this first DIY festive project. I have two more coming up soon so keep an eye out for those!
