If you're feeling a little blue now the nights are drawing in this cocktail is bound to cheer you up. Cooler weather is the perfect excuse to spice up your drinks a little and this one is flavoured with cinnamon and nutmeg making it the perfect warming cocktail for autumn. You can easily omit the gin and Aperol to make this alcohol free, it would also be delicious with the addition of ginger ale.


Simon and I have wanted some classic champagne saucers for years. There's something elegant and special about drinking out of vintage style glasses so I was so happy when LSA very kindly sent me a set. When they arrived we swiftly popped some champers to *ahem* try them out.

Anyway, on with the recipe!



For one cocktail you will need:

Champagne saucers (or your glass of choice)
The juice of 1 orange
Orange slices to garnish
2 shots of Aperol
1 shot of gin
A pinch of cinnamon
A pinch of ground nutmeg
Soda water
A dash of bitters
Ice

Firstly make the spiced orange syrup. In a small saucepan gently heat the spices and orange juice until the liquid is perfumed with the flavour of the spices. Do not boil. Once the spiced juice is infused pop the mixture in the fridge to cool.

In a cocktail shaker or tall glass, measure out the Aperol, gin and bitters and a handful of ice cubes. Shake or stir the ingredients together until well mixed.

In your champagne saucer pour out the gin and Aperol mixture, straining the ice. Pour over the orange syrup, top with soda water and add a slice of orange to the glass. Enjoy your autumnal cocktail!
